The Six Tenets - the commonly used short form of the proper title, Six Tenets of Battle - are a set of rules followed by the Order of the Dark Paladin.
Along with the Order itself, Invi Mastersmith I developed the Six Tenets as a direct counterpoint to the Brotherhood of the Light and their practices. In keeping with his personal style, the Tenets are clear-cut and understandable, with little room for interpretation or confusion as is common with the Brotherhood's texts.
Each Tenet consists of two parts: the primary text and the subtext. All of the primary texts are prohibitions, the Mastersmith having been quite specific about leaving combat options wide open to account for technical advances or innovations, once again contrasting the Brotherhood's hidebound condition. Each subtext clarifies the meaning and intent of its respective primary text, making the Six Tenets a set of rules on what specifically not to do in battle.
The Six Tenets of Battle Edit
I. NEVER HOLD BACKEdit
Strike with full force and follow through completely.
II. NEVER SHOW MERCY TO THE UNMERCIFULEdit
Willfully yielding any advantage to a ruthless opponent is an act deserving of death.
III. NEVER KILL WITH A MIND CLOUDED BY EMOTIONEdit
Regret is the result of indecision. Indecision is a property of the weak.
IV. NEVER LET A BETRAYER LIVEEdit
A man's word is his life. Break those who break theirs.
V. NEVER LET YOUR GUARD DOWNEdit
When you fight, focus on the fight. Nothing else matters.
VI. NEVER DIE EASILYEdit
There is no honor in death, only the honor of a well-fought battle.
